Meet Abiba

Lured with the promise of work in a supermarket or restaurant abroad, Abiba tragically became a victim of trafficking and was forced into commercial sex work. Stranded on the streets after her documents were confiscated, Abiba struggled to survive and had no idea how she would get back home.

Abiba eventually was repatriated from China by the help of a nonprofit. Upon her return, she received vital medical care in a shelter program, where she began to address the paralysis in one of her hands. Recognizing her resilience, support was provided for her son's school fees.

Our case managers stepped in to assist Abiba in establishing a restaurant in Kampala. Despite initial success followed by a downturn, Abiba's determination shone through. Following a refresher course and further support to relaunch her business, her restaurant is now thriving.

Today, Abiba proudly pays her son's school fees, employs five individuals, and confidently sustains her family.
